IPPT Push-Up Score Table 2026: Points by Age Group

Push-ups account for 25 of the 100 available IPPT points. For most servicemen, it is the station where gains come fastest with proper training — but only if you know exactly what you're training toward.

This page gives you the complete push-up scoring breakdown for every age group in 2026, so you know precisely how many reps you need for your target score.

How Are IPPT Push-Ups Scored?

What Push-Up Count Do You Need for Gold?

To score Gold (85+ total), you need strong scores from all three stations. For push-ups, here's what you're roughly targeting per age band to contribute well to a Gold total:

Age BandPush-Up Reps for ~22–25 pts
22 – 2438 – 44+ reps
25 – 2936 – 42+ reps
30 – 3434 – 40+ reps
35 – 3932 – 38+ reps
40 – 4428 – 35+ reps
45 – 4924 – 30+ reps

What Push-Up Count Do You Need to Just Pass?

Passing IPPT requires 51 total points across all three stations. You can pass with a low push-up score if you compensate with the run and sit-ups. But as a rough target, scoring at least 12–15 push-up points (mid-range) keeps your pass achievable without placing too much pressure on the other stations.

IPPT Push-Up Scoring — Female Benchmarks

Female servicemen are assessed on a separate scoring table with adjusted thresholds. In general, female push-up standards require fewer reps per point band compared to male equivalents at the same age. The award tiers (Gold, Silver, Pass) remain the same.

For female-specific push-up scoring, see our Female IPPT Calculator page.

Common IPPT Push-Up Mistakes That Cost Points

Going too fast and losing form: Partial reps are not counted. Many servicemen burn through 15–20 fast, sloppy push-ups only to have them invalidated. Controlled, full-range reps count.

No pacing strategy: Going all-out in the first 20 seconds and collapsing for the final 40 is the most common way to underperform. Start at about 80% effort, maintain form, and push in the final 15 seconds.

Neglecting push-up training: Many servicemen only run and neglect upper body work. Dedicated push-up training 3–4 times per week can add 5–8 points to your push-up score in 6–8 weeks.

How to Improve Your IPPT Push-Up Score

The most effective method for building push-up endurance is high-frequency, moderate-volume training:

Within 6 weeks, most servicemen see a 20–30% improvement in their timed push-up count.

FAQ

How many push-ups do I need for IPPT Gold?

For most age bands, roughly 36–44 push-ups in one minute is needed to score near the maximum 25 points and contribute to a Gold total.

Does IPPT count push-ups that touch the ground?

No. The push-up form requires your chest to come close to (or touch) the ground at the bottom, and arms fully extended at the top. The tester will not count reps that don't meet the standard.

Can I rest during the push-up station?

You can pause in the up (arms extended) position. You cannot rest your knees or body on the ground. Once you go down to a rest position, the tester will stop counting.

Are IPPT push-up standards the same for SAF, SPF and SCDF?

The same scoring framework applies across all three services. Minor table variations may exist at certain age bands — always confirm with your specific service's official tables.
