Pre-Enlistee IPPT 2026: Complete Rules, Scoring & Incentive Guide
For most young Singaporean men, the first real experience with the SAF isn't BMT — it is the Pre-Enlistee IPPT. The stakes are high: passing this test can reduce your full-time National Service (NS) duration by two months.
This page covers the pre-enlistee IPPT standards for 2026, the specific requirements for the 8-week reduction, and how to use our calculator to see where you stand.
The "2-Month Reduction" Rule
The standard full-time NS duration is 24 months. However, if you achieve a certain physical standard before enlistment, you are eligible for a 2-month reduction, bringing your service length down to 22 months.
What Score Do You Need?
To qualify for the 2-month reduction, you must achieve at least a PASS WITH INCENTIVE (Silver) or GOLD standard in your pre-enlistee IPPT.
- Gold: 85+ points
- Silver: 75+ points
- Pass (51+ pts): Does NOT qualify for the reduction. You will still serve 24 months.
Note: You must achieve this result at least two weeks before your enlistment date to be eligible for the reduction.
Pre-Enlistee IPPT Scoring Table (2026)
Pre-enlistees are scored under the youngest age band (typically under 22). This is the most demanding band in terms of reps and run time required for each point.
To see the full rep-by-rep breakdown, visit our Full IPPT Score Chart and look at the "Under 22" column.
Common Target Benchmarks for Pre-Enlistees
If you are aiming for the 2-month reduction, you are targeting at least 75 points. Here is what a typical 75-point (Silver) performance looks like for a pre-enlistee:
- Push-ups: 35 – 40 reps (in 1 min)
- Sit-ups: 35 – 40 reps (in 1 min)
- 2.4km Run: 11:30 – 12:00 minutes
If you are aiming for Gold (85 points), you likely need:
- Push-ups: 45+ reps
- Sit-ups: 45+ reps
- 2.4km Run: Under 10:30 minutes
Where to Take the Pre-Enlistee IPPT?
Pre-enlistee IPPT tests are conducted at the **Fitness Conditioning Centres (FCCs)** across Singapore. You will typically be given a date by CMPB, or you can book an attempt independently if you are still within the pre-enlistment window.
Check out our FCC Locations Guide for addresses and track details.
What If You Fail the Pre-Enlistee IPPT?
If you fail or achieve only a "Pass" standard (below 75 points):
- You will serve the full 24 months of National Service.
- You will be required to attend a 8-week PTP (Physical Training Phase) at the start of your BMT. This phase is designed to build up your fitness before the main BMT training begins.
Essentially, the 2-month reduction is achieved by "clearing" the PTP phase through your IPPT result.
Training for the Pre-Enlistee IPPT
Since you are in the most competitive age band, your training needs to be disciplined. Most pre-enlistees struggle with the 2.4km run. Focus heavily on interval training to bring your run time down.
Follow our 8-Week Training Plan for a step-by-step guide to hitting Silver or Gold standard.
FAQ
Does a 51-point "Pass" get me the 2-month reduction?
No. You must score at least 75 points (Silver) to qualify for the NS service length reduction.
Can I retake the pre-enlistee IPPT if I fail?
Yes, as long as there is an available slot and it is at least two weeks before your enlistment date. Check with CMPB for booking availability.
Do I get the $500/$300 cash incentive as a pre-enlistee?
No. Pre-enlistees receive the service duration reduction, not the cash incentives. The cash awards start once you are formally enlisted as an NSF or serving as an NSman.
What if I am medically unfit to take IPPT before enlistment?
You will serve the full 24 months and your fitness will be assessed during BMT. If you have a permanent medical condition, your PES status will be adjusted accordingly by CMPB.
