IPPT Window Period 2026: Key Deadlines, Dates & Booking Timeline
Understanding your IPPT window is the most basic part of NS compliance. Missing your window isn't just a matter of fitness — it is an administrative failure that can lead to Remedial Training (RT) and, in persistent cases, legal consequences.
This page covers exactly how the IPPT window works in 2026, how to check your specific deadline, and what to do if you can't make it.
What Is the IPPT Window Period?
Your IPPT window is the 12-month period during which you are required to attempt and pass your IPPT. It is tied to your birthday.
- Window Start: The day after your birthday
- Window End: Your next birthday
For example: If your birthday is 15 June, your IPPT window for the 2026 cycle runs from 16 June 2025 to 15 June 2026.
How to Check Your IPPT Deadline
You can check your official IPPT deadline through two primary channels:
- NS Portal / NS.sg: Log in with your Singpass. Your IPPT dashboard will clearly display your current window status and the date your window closes.
- NS Home App: The mobile version of the portal. It provides push notifications as your deadline approaches.
Recommendation: Check your deadline at least 6 months before your birthday. This gives you enough time to book a slot and train if necessary.
What Happens If You Miss Your IPPT Window?
Missing your window without a valid reason (e.g., approved medical deferment) is considered a default. Here is the typical escalation path:
- Step 1: Notification of failure to complete IPPT.
- Step 2: Enrolment into compulsory Remedial Training (RT). You will be required to attend multiple training sessions at an FCC.
- Step 3: If you repeatedly miss windows or ignore RT obligations, you may be called for a summary trial. This can result in fines or other disciplinary actions.
For more details on the consequences of failure, see our What Happens If You Fail IPPT page.
IPPT Deferment and Medical Leave
If you are unable to take your IPPT due to legitimate reasons, you must apply for a deferment before your window closes.
Medical Deferment
If you have a medical condition (short-term or long-term) that prevents you from training or testing, you must obtain a formal Medical Certificate (MC) or a medical board review (PES status change). Submit your medical documentation via the NS Portal as soon as possible.
Overseas Deferment
If you are working or studying overseas for an extended period, you may be eligible for an overseas deferment. This typically requires proof of overseas residence/employment and an approved Exit Permit (if applicable).
Booking Your IPPT Slot
Slots at popular FCCs (like Maju or Khatib) can fill up fast, especially on weekends and as the window-end date approaches. It is highly advisable to book your slot at least 4–8 weeks in advance.
Booking is done via the Manage IPPT/NSFIT section of the NS Portal.
The "End of Window" Rush
Every year, thousands of servicemen try to book IPPT in the final two weeks before their birthday. This leads to fully booked slots and unnecessary stress. If you fail an IPPT taken at the very end of your window, you have no time for a retake, and you will be pushed into the RT cycle automatically.
Goal: Take your first IPPT attempt at least 3 months before your birthday. If you pass, you're done. If you fail, you have plenty of time to train and retake it without pressure.
